A LITTLE MORE ABOUT ME

I'm a fully qualified Yoga and Pilates Teacher and Teacher Trainer living in Cheddar. I initially trained as a dancer and then spent 20 years developing inclusive arts and wellbeing projects. I have always enjoyed the feeling of finding freedom through movement, and through my career enjoyed working closely with people of all ages and abilities to increase wellbeing and creativity, and I now combine these passions in my teaching.

After completing my BA(Hons) Dance in 1997 I was lucky to get a job at Sadlers Wells Theatre, working for the Community and Education Department, working with the over 60's performance group and youth dance company.  I first took Pilates lessons in 1993 as part of my degree, and took my first Iyengar yoga lesson in 1998 in a London studio.  Initially studying Iyengar yoga, I discovered Ashtanga yoga whilst travelling in Thailand in 2000 and became hooked on the flowing dance like style of Ashtanga and Vinyasa yoga. As I've got older (and possibly wiser!) I've added gentle restorative yoga and yoga nidra to my practice, helping me through some challenging times in my life.

In 2015 I began my Yoga Teacher Training with Shelia Haswell, Senior Iyengar Yoga Teacher, and have continued to develop my practice studying with experienced teachers such as Judith Hanson Lasater Ph.d, Wendy Teasdill, and studying anatomy with Andrew McGonigle (Dr Yogi). I have a Level 3 Diploma in Teaching Mat Pilates and have taken Yoga Alliance accredited courses in Yin Yoga and Pranayama.

I now teach vinyasa yoga – a flowing style of yoga where sequences of poses are linked with movement and the breath, my classes are varied and draw on all my movement experience in Iyengar (including restorative poses), pilates and dance. I have a strong interest in supporting older people and tailoring my teaching around individual needs. I believe that yoga, along with all creative activities, should be accessible to everyone and work to remove any barriers to participation. Today I combine my love of teaching in the local community with working as a Yoga & Pilates Teacher Trainer whilst continuing to develop accessible arts and wellbeing projects for Live Music Now and Youth Music (and being a busy mum!). I am a Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance.
